You're an original. You see the world differently. You are a thinker and a feeler; deep, sensitive, unique, passionate, complex. Sometimes you might feel frustrated, anxious, stressed, impatient, infuriated or hopeless when those around you don't seem to "get" how it feels to be you in the world. Sometimes it feels like you're the only one that has ever thought, or felt, the way you do.
You're not alone. Together, we'll work within the safe container of understanding who you are. We'll seek to help you understand yourself, to find healing for what hurts, to find skills that work for you, and to reconnect you with your joy and fullest potential for healthy, happy living.

Meet Miranda
I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC-MHSP) and K-12 licensed school counselor in Tennessee. I began my counseling career in 2014 as the Lower School Counselor at Currey Ingram Academy in TN, serving children who learn differently & their families there for 9 years and taking on the additional distinction of Chair for Social-Emotional Learning in 2019. I have taught and guest-lectured for Vanderbilt University's graduate counseling program, educating future school counselors about working with exceptional learners. I began working in clinical private practice as a therapist in 2019. I am a native of Boston, MA and received my undergraduate degree from Brown University and my Masters’ in Human Development Counseling from Vanderbilt University.
As a neurodivergent person and therapy veteran myself, I am able to connect with clients out of personal lived experience as well as professional expertise. Apart from my work, I enjoy spending time in nature, creating art, moving my body, learning new things, and finding ways to celebrate the everyday with those I love.
Treatment Approach
I utilize a person-centered approach to counseling and believe in the transformative power of relationship, in the power of play and connection, in the intersection of neuroscience with shared humanity, and in a strengths-based mindset for all individuals with whom I work. Your, or your child's, treatment & care will be an individually and collaboratively created experience designed to balance evidence-based therapeutic interventions with the fluidity and connection that are the hallmarks of human healing. You are the authority on your life; you are the most important part of your own healing and our work together will honor your autonomy. When working with children & adolescents, I view my role as a therapist to the child and a supportive consultant to the parent/guardian.
From this foundation, I integrate tools from many evidence-based & affirming therapies prescriptively, including:
Trust-Based Relational Intervention (TBRI)
Play therapy
Expressive arts
Internal Family Systems
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Eye-Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Yoga therapy (Registered yoga teacher, RYT-200)
Sensory-informed psychotherapy
I am LGBTQIA+-positive, neurodiversity-affirming and anti-racist.
My goal is to maintain a therapy space that feels inclusive and affirming of a multiplicity of human experiences.
I operate from a trauma-informed, anti-oppression & anti-carceral framework of mental health care.
You don’t fit into a box.
Your therapy shouldn’t, either.

FAQ’s
Will therapy be in-person or via telehealth?
Your choice; I offer both.
Telehealth clients must be located In Tennessee.
Are you accepting new clients?
I am sorry to say that I'm currently full and unable to accept new clients as of August 2024. Please reach out after November 2024 with new patient inquiries.
What are your rates?
$125 per 50-minute session for individual therapy for children, adolescents and adults
Can I use my health insurance to pay for therapy?
I do not accept insurance, but I can provide you with a superbill that you may submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. Many clients are also able to pay with HSA or FSA accounts.
Do I have to talk about my trauma and/or difficult things I don't like talking about?
Short answer: no, you don't have to. Long answer: I operate from the understanding that trauma of all kinds inhabits our bodies and nervous systems in ways that frequently escape words, reason, logic and concrete memory. Knowing this, we understand that some of the most impactful healing from trauma can take place using somatic approaches designed to re-regulate our nervous systems and bring experiences of safety through our bodies. Some people find themselves wanting to process their hardships and trauma through discussion, sharing, narrative processing and other ways that feel like "talking about it." Some people do not. Either way is okay, and therapy is your personal journey to co-create; profound healing is possible both with and without much talking.
I’m a parent/guardian. Are you going to tell me what my child or teen does/says in therapy? Can we do family therapy?
I provide consultation to parents/guardians in the form of observational feedback, insights about your child, and supportive recommendations (i.e., strategies to try, resources to pursue, language to use, ways to think about things, etc.) I adhere to confidentiality practices for all my clients, including children, and thus will not share with you specifics about what your child/teen says or does during session without the child's express consent unless the child is in danger. If you are seeking verbatim reports of what your child says in each session, I will not be a good fit for your goals.
While I do consult with guardians about how they can best support their child, and may occasionally offer parent-child or sibling sessions as part of a child's care on a responsive basis, I do not specialize in providing family therapy.
No Surprises Act: Statement on Good Faith Estimates
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services. You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees. Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical services or item. You can also ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill. Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call (800) 368-1019.
